Goodbye Subdreamer Hello Wordpress

Well, i don’t publish to this site any more, but i do use it for reference to the skins and applications I have made over the year for Joomla and Subdreamer. I figured since I use wordpress a lot more it was time for a change…. Well, it’s as good as a holiday… =)

Cheers, well, I can say that Wordpress is amazing, Subdreamer was great in the fact that you can integrate seamlessly with so many great forums, but development of the CMS slowed to a halt, but Wordpress has just taken right off. I still have to do a new theme for wordpress though =)

Congratulations on the new site! Wordpress is amazing! I switched all my SD sites to WP because it is so “clean” and professional.
Have did you transferred all your SD data to WP?
I too started with Subdreamer and moved to WP… seems to be a standard migration path. WP needs a bit of work to use as a CMS, but is fantastic as far as it goes. Most importantly, you can build modern, user & browser friendly sites with it. Not much to ask given that it’s 2010!
How could Subdreamer get it so wrong?
Subdreamer’s lack of flexibility for article categorization, terrible plugins and the fact that so much presentation was coded into the core and the plugin architecture made it utterly useless for anything other than hobby websites.
I’d be interested to know how version 3 compares with the previous offering, but given that the Subdreamer team seem to have turned their back on previous customers (not allowing access to the forum), I guess I’ll never know.
They’d have to come along way though – like scrapping all of the old plugins and starting again with at least some sort of code examination for minimum requirements.
All of these problems for a $195 (inc. branding free options) or WP, Drupal, etc for free? Multiply that by how ever many sites you create…. it’s a no-brainer.
Yup, I think SD has seen it’s day. Maybe they should have offered it at a much lower price point (or better still, free, like it’s competitors) and tried to build a community of quality contributors so that they had a genuinely useful product.
YEah, it is great, and I have done a stack of wordpress sites now (sadly nothing to this one for ages), and it’s been the best thing I ever did.
Wordpress is a great CMS, with a few tweaks. My only gripe is the inability (yet) to compress all CSS files from the ehader, and out put as 1 cached file for speed (like drupal does), but, this can be done with a bit of programming.
